Senior Pastor, Fedha Church, Kenya Assemblies of God

Biblically, the number 3 signifies divine completeness, perfection, and harmony, often highlighting defining moments in salvation history.

Prophetic and Biblical Meanings of 3:

The Trinity and Perfection: Represents the nature of God, with three entities—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—forming a perfect, united whole.

Resurrection and New Life: Jesus was resurrected on the third day, symbolizing triumph over death and divine intervention.

Completion of Time or Purpose: Used to signify a set, complete period, such as Jonah's three days in the fish, the three-year ministry of Jesus, or the three-year famine during David's reign.

Emphasis and Intensity: Biblical authors used triplication to highlight extreme importance or holiness (e.g., "Holy, holy, holy" in Revelation 4:8 and Isaiah 6:3).

Confirmation of Testimony: In Matthew 18:16, matters are established by two or three witnesses, making 3 a symbol of validated truth.

Examples of 3 in Scripture:

Threefold Divine Action: Jesus prayed three times in Gethsemane.

Matthew 26:39, 42, 44
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done." So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

He was on the cross at the third hour, with three hours of darkness.

Mark 15:25, 33
Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

Symbolic Events: The Transfiguration involved three disciples (Peter, James, and John) and three figures (Jesus, Moses, and Elijah).

Matthew 17:1-3
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

Structural Significance: The Tabernacle was divided into three sections: Outer Court, Holy Place, and Holy of Holies.

Exodus 26:33
And you shall hang the veil from the clasps. Then you shall bring the ark of the Testimony in there, behind the veil. The veil shall be a divider for you between the holy place and the Most Holy.

Prophetic Actions: Daniel prayed three times a day.

Daniel 6:10
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
