Joshua 14: 6-19

6. Now the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.

Psalm 119:49-50

Remember Your word to Your servant, in which You have made me hope.

This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your promise gives me life.

The Psalmist says that God’s promises give him hope in the midst of affliction and urges us to remind God of His promises.

The idea of reminding, remembering and remembrance is a major theme in the Bible and we have the honour of Reminding Him of his prophetic calendar, and to keep his pre-arranged appointments.

Isaiah 62:6-7 (The Good News Bible British edition)

On your walls, Jerusalem, I have placed sentries; They must never be silent day or night. They must remind the LORD of his promises And never let him forget them. They must give him no rest until he restores Jerusalem And makes it a city the whole world praises.

We see God remembering

“Then God remembered Noah”, (Genesis 8:1) “God remembered Abraham”, (Genesis 19:29 King James Version) “then God remembered Sarah”, Genesis 21:1-3 (Amplified Bible) “the Lord remembered Hannah" 1 Samuel 1:19-20 (English Standard Version 2016).

Does God forget, certainly not. It is for our sake.

1 Kings 1

15. So Bathsheba went to see the aged king in his room, where Abishag the Shunammite was attending him.

16. Bathsheba bowed down, prostrating herself before the king. “What is it you want?” the king asked.

17. She said to him, “My lord, you yourself swore to me your servant by the Lord your God: ‘Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne.’

18. But now Adonijah has become king, and you, my lord the king, do not know about it.

Caleb was in the promised land but he had to remind Joshua of the promise.

Being in the promised land did not automatically mean possessing the land.

This is chapter 14 where they crossed Jordan in chapter 1 but Caleb Hajapata (has not received his portion).

So here he takes the initiative to remind Joshua and he asked for the mountain. The mountain was inhabited by the enemies. Mountains and hills were the most fertile places for vineyards and farming. He did not ask just to be given but he was ready to fight for it.

So Caleb reminded Joshua that he had crossed over to the promised land but he doesn't have the land.

You have crossed over into 2024 lakini wapi baraka zako za (but where are your blessings for) 2024?.

Tumukumbushe Mungu natuitishe mlima wetu (Let us remind God and ask for our mountain).
