Minister Peter Gichohi
Fedha Church, Kenya Assemblies of God
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
Context
Writer: Paul
To whom: The church at Corinth
Occasion: Following a division where some said they were for Paul and others for Apollos
1. Building
Man as a Builder
Men are God's fellow workers.
God has entrusted the work of building structures to people.
God expects stewardship and carefulness in whatever a man is building.
People build ministries (e.g., Paul), marriages, families, businesses, and governments.
2. Lasting
Building something that remains strong and valuable over time – standing the test of time.
For one to build to last:
The Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:10
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
Foundations are very critical as they are the beginning of buildings.
a) Foundations are laid.
It is for a man to give himself to lay, establish, set, or construct.
You lay foundations on your own.
You labour to lay your foundations.
Romans 15:20
And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation.
b) Foundations require skill and wisdom.
A wise master builder employs wisdom and skills in building.
Proverbs 24:3
Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.
Proverbs 3:19
The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens.
God, as the greatest Builder, laid the foundations of the earth by wisdom.
Man requires wisdom from above to lay foundations of ministry, marriage, and more.
Skill fastens the building of foundations and makes the building process easier.
Get skills in line with your business.
c) Foundations require rootings and stability.
Ensure the foundation is deep, for the more the foundation is deep, the more stable your structure. The shooting of your business or whatever structure you are building will depend upon the stability of your foundation.
d) Jesus Christ is the only stable foundation. (Key Point)
The foundation is a person – JESUS CHRIST.
Anchor your foundation on the person of Christ.
Visibility does not represent lasting, neither does the beauty of the structure.
Building relationships and ministry based on social media does not guarantee lasting.
Building business on the foundation of hidden powers will not last; only Christ shall it last.
All other foundations are sinking grounds; only on the person of Christ is lasting guaranteed.
Ministry built on foundations of traditions and religion will not stand the test of time.
Building marriage or business on the foundation of a man will not last long (e.g., copy and pasting).
Building on Christ will stand the test of fire and rain.
Question: Is Jesus your foundation?
The Materials
After laying on the right foundation, materials are critical.
1 Corinthians 3:12
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw.
Building with the right materials such as gold, silver, and precious stones will make the building last long. But on the contrary, building with the wrong materials such as wood, hay, and straw will not last long.
Many build on the foundation of Christ but fail to take heed on the materials, and on these, the structure fails to last long.
Build your ministry, business, and marriage through the virtues of character.
Let faithfulness and godliness be the materials of your business.
There is a day of fire when all the man's work shall be revealed.
There are eternal rewards for those who will build lasting things.
