Philippians 1
1. Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons :
2. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace are perhaps the most important essentials in the life of a believer. Grace is divine enablement. Ability beyond the natural.
We are saved through Grace. It is impossible to be saved by yourself.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
You are saved by grace not works.
John 6:44-51 (King James Version)
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.
The Christian life is supernatural. It is only possible through Grace.
1 Corinthians 15
10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
It takes grace to love other Christians and accommodate their weaknesses. Grace helps us to live a righteous life and overcome sin.
Titus 2
11. For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
The grace of God teaches us to say no to every ungodliness. Grace helps us live with almost impossible situations and people.
It helps us bear with weaknesses
2 Corinthians 12:9
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
Grace enables us to do extraordinary things.
Grace defines.
Jesus is our peace.
You can have everything but without peace you are empty.
Peace is what satisfies the heart.
Nothing else can fill or replace peace.
When Jesus came he gave the disciples peace.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is love:
Galatians 5:22
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
The first portion of it is joy and peace.
Without peace, our hearts are troubled.
Peace is the basis of sanity in life
Timothy 2:1-4
Pray for rulers and for all who have authority so that we can have quiet and peaceful lives full of worship and respect for God. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to know the truth.
Grace and peace are the essentials of a happy life.
Where do they come from?
Roman 5:10
Even when we were God's enemies, he made peace with us, because his Son died for us. Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by the life of his Son.
John 1
16. Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
17. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2
14. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
We can only have grace and peace in Christ alone.
Jesus saves us by grace and he gives us assurance of our eternal life and this is what gives us peace.
John 14
1. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
2. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
The world can't have this.
