Psalms 136:Thanksgiving: giving glory to God for his mighty deeds
To acknowledge God for what his wonders
One of the biggest secrets of David was his grateful heart to men and God. For some of us, God has surrounded us with good parents, spouses, children, bosses, and friends but you have never taken time to just say thank you!! You feel it's your right to have and people to do what they do but it's not.
It is easy to get used to the blessings of God that you easily forget what is normal to you is not to others food, health, and strength.
Some of us are so extreme that we even lecture God on what he has not done.
Luke 17: The ten healed leapers: after healing Jesus was found standing at the same point waiting.
Why do we give thanks?
1. We preserve our blessings:- Malachi 2:1 What you thank God for will last.
2. Perfect our blessings- 10 lepers Luke 17:12. God will never complete what you don't appreciate. James 1:17 - until you thank God for good you will never receive perfect. Good is a test for perfect to come.
3. Multiply our blessings: John 6:9- Jesus took limited resources and gave thanks, what was LIMITED in their hands became UNLIMITED in God's hands Jeremiah 30:19 - God multiplies status.
How to give thanks.
Do it cheerfully
2 Corinthian 9:7 - For God loves a cheerful giver
Deuteronomy 28;47 - Consequences of not being thankful
Do it quickly
Deuteronomy 6:12- lest you forget.
Do it with praise
Psalms 47:1 Thanksgiving praise provokes the Lord to ascend.
Thanksgiving is a blessing-provoker. Every time you thank God for the small things you provoke him to do more.
The depth of your thanksgiving determines how outstanding your praise is.
