Matthew 28
18. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
These were the last words of Jesus in Matthew.
The last words of a person are the most important. They are more significant and greater than anything he had said previously.
They speak of what is important to that person or his greatest desire or final wishes. Jesus' greatest wish was for us to fulfil his purpose of coming to redeem humankind.
- Soul winning is the heartbeat of God.
- It is the greatest commission.
- It is not a wish but an explicit command to every believer, Go.
- It is not a command for a certain group called Evangelists but the main duty of every believer
- Sadly enough we have turned the greatest commission into the greatest omission.
- We are not just called into salvation but we live to bring others to Jesus.
- The mission of each and every believer is to know Jesus and make him known.
- Just as he won us he sends us on a mission to win others. We are all missionary
- You are either a missionary or a mission field.
- Every believer must respond to this call and be actively involved.
Wherever you find yourself in life, that is your mission field. Be it work, school, business or in the estate. We are there to actively represent and proclaim Jesus to the people around us.
2 Corinthians 5
20. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
Are you a Christ ambassador or even people around you have no idea you're a believer?
We do it in two ways:
Light. Your deeds should testify Jesus Christ
Matthew 5
14. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
16. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Salt your words should proclaim our risen savior Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5
13. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
If we are willing, he will be with us
Mark 16:17. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18. they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
The command is to go and these wonders will follow us. Unless you go, don't expect anyone or anything to follow.
The most unfortunate thing is that we are all seated. We are no longer going but seated in the church. That's why we have a weak church and God no longer demonstrates his power of wonders and signs.
Signs and wonders are not for the church but for the non-believers. So that they may believe
John 20:30. Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.
31. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
When we Go out to evangelize the power of the Holy Spirit is with us and at work. God causes these miracles to happen to convince the non-believers
The reward
Daniel 12:3. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
Not going is disobedience. We need to actively share the gospel at all times. Sometimes invite people, especially non-believers, to church.
Have you been telling others about Jesus ama wewe ni (or you are) a secret service believer
