Proverbs 25:14
A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.
God is a promise keeper. He is a covenant-keeping God. He always keeps His word and He expects you to do the same. So when you. As his children, we must have his nature. When you promise, it is always better to do what you promised.
Nobody likes people who don't live up to their word.
Promises set expectations very high and if not fulfilled they bring great disappointments and crush the spirit.
That's why they are like clouds without rain. It would have been good if they never appeared at all.
When you make a promise to someone or to God and you break it, think of the consequences.
Breaking a promise is a sin that needs repentance. It is only noble to repent and fulfil it.
Our words are very powerful. Our promise comes with a guarantee.
As Christians, if we make promises It is never expected we will fail to keep them. It would have been better for you not to make the promise in the first place than to break it.
Sometimes we make promises when in desperate situations. You promise God or a person that if He gets you out of this trial, you wIll do this and that. He gets you out of the trial, but instead of keeping your word you procrastinate and you try to compromise or you get selfish and find a way out.
Aspects of promise
1. A promise must be fulfilled in full
Once you promise the only way out is to fulfill it. Don't go back on it or go to renegotiate. So mean what you say.
Deuteronomy 23
23. Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.
If you make a vow to the Lord your God, don’t avoid keeping it. The Lord your God expects you to keep it. Otherwise, you will be guilty of sin.
2. Don't just do it but do it fully
Make sure you do what you said you would do in your vow. You freely chose to make your vow to the Lord your God.
Numbers 30
2. When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.
Don't try to opt-out or renegotiate
Ecclesiastes 5
6. Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say
Don’t say to the priest, “I didn’t mean what I said. Don't give God a reason to destroy what you have worked with your hands
Just be a man of your word
Matthew 5
37. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
3. The promise must be fulfilled within the times
Some people are willing to fulfill their promises but the problem is they want to do it at their pleasure. They want to do it at their convenient time. You are to keep the promise and within its time.
Deuteronomy 23
21. If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.
Ecclesiastes 5
4. When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.
Therefore, It is important to have a strategy to keep your promise and do it on time.
Kingdom building Sunday is a strategy to help you keep your promise.
