Coming out of a Belly of Situations, October 2, 2022

By Rev. Alex Titus

Jonah 1:17,

17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1-10

1 [a]From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said:

“In my distress I called to the Lord,

    and he answered me.

From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help,

    and you listened to my cry.

3 You hurled me into the depths,

    into the very heart of the seas,

    and the currents swirled about me;

all your waves and breakers

    swept over me.

4 I said, ‘I have been banished

    from your sight;

yet I will look again

    toward your holy temple.’

5 The engulfing waters threatened me,[b]

    the deep surrounded me;

    seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;

    the earth beneath barred me in forever.

But you, Lord my God,

    brought my life up from the pit.

7 “When my life was ebbing away,

    I remembered you, Lord,

and my prayer rose to you,

    to your holy temple.

8 “Those who cling to worthless idols

    turn away from God’s love for them.

9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,

    will sacrifice to you.

What I have vowed I will make good.

    I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Who is Jonah?

Jonah is YOU.

(Jonah Verses 1-3)

(Verses 3-4)

(Verses 8-14)

When we are about to deliver things get tough. The more the contraction the higher the chances of delivery. We serve a God who will not always put a smile on your faces and bless you and pour favour upon you. We serve a God who when He wants to direct you, correct and inspect you, He is a God who delivers you in times of need.

We serve a God who will allow circumstances to come in Life. We serve a Godwho will say it is your time to come out. We serve a God who knows when it's time to bring you out of hidden places of life.

Jonah 2:6

Whenever you try to run away from God you will not go anywhere

Jonah 1:3, Psalms 139:1-2

No matter where you go, God will always have control over your life. Jonah 1:9

God had prepared a Fish to come and swallow Jonah.

God speaks with the fish that it's time for Jonah to come out.

Jonah 2:10

What proved to God that Jonah had changed, what gave God sign that Jonah had obeyed,

What convinced God that Jonah deserved a second chance?

1. He was in a place of prayer

-God will put you in a place where he will push you to pray, so that you can see what prayer can do.

Jonah 2:1

-What will not kill me will make me strong.

-Whatever that will not kill me will strengthen me.

2. Jonah gave the sacrifice of thanksgiving (Praise)

Jonah 2:9

-The fish was not a punishment but protection.

-The fish protected Jonah from (drowning)dying.

-A man's pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Psalms 29:23

3. Your consistency in the presence of God

-Don't run away from storms, instead face them by faith.

-Daniel didn't change his prayer timetable due to what rulers agreed, he prayed like there was no law passed

Isaiah 41:10
