Lest you Forget, June 26, 2022

Deuteronomy 10: 7-20.

How soon we forget where we have come from and the people who have stood with us or God who has delivered us. We are entering the next level and are about to experience a new glory. The question is will you still be faithful or you will soon forget. There is some truth to help us maintain our relationship with God even after we are blessed.

1. Abide in God, not in  the blessing

Blessing, victories, success and good things can quickly draw our attention. After moving to the next level, it is very easy to focus on the new glories and forget the Lord of Glory. As we celebrate and enjoy the blessings, it is easy to be carried away and forget the one who gave us victory. Let's enjoy the blessings but love our God wholeheartedly.

Our blessings no matter how good they are should never take the place of God in our lives. Our devotion and desire should always be for God and Christ must remain the centre of our lives. Let our blessings be a reason to love God more and not keep us away from God.

Always focus on the blesser and never the blessings and you will remain blessed.

John 15: 5

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can."

2. Maintain a life of prayer and devotion

Prayers keep us connected to God and the source of our blessings.

It ushers us before a great God and we are humbled when we see his greatness in comparison to our weakness no matter how blessed we are.

When we look at God we discover how, unworthy,  poor, weak and unrighteous we are before him and we are humbled. We realise we are nothing without him and he is everything and so the need to depend on him even more.

Isaiah 6 :1. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

5. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Isaiah thought he was righteous and okay with an anointed tongue prophesying un he was in the presence of God and he was humbled. He saw his unworthiness. He could no longer be proud. He saw his need for God rather than his achievements as a prophet.

Prayers keep us humbled before God and erode any tendency to feel great, worth or self-sufficiency which is the source of pride.

Lack of prayer is not laziness but pride. It is a statement that I am okay niko sawa I don't need God.

Pride is a false attitude that sets in whenever we stay away from God and are left with the self.

It elevates us to a false position where we see ourselves and our achievements exalted and God is not lifted.

Prayers humble us because God is always enthroned and we are his subjects.

Daniel 4:29.

Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,

30. he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

31. Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.

When we Maintain a life of prayer and devotion, we remain humbled and blessed.

We can not be blinded by where we are or what we have. God remains our everything and our focus and we desire him more than anything.

Daniel 10

12. Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.

It is my prayer that the same passion we exhibited when seeking blessings, we will still be that passionate in prayer even after we have received our blessings.

Some people are very prayerful when they need something from God but wakipate wamefika. Away they go.

3. Put a memorial

As soon as we are out of hardships or blessed, we easily forget where we have come from and so we forget the one who has brought us.

Putting a memorial acts as a reminder of God's doing.

Never forget where you have come from and the God who has brought you this far.

1 Samuel 7

12. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

You can put a permanent mark or a small durable gift like wall hanging or articles to remind you.

Note down, mark in your calendar and diaries, and keep a journal as a memorial to remind you what God did.

Hold an event or share a testimony that even others will remind you of God's doing in your life and you will be grateful to God always.

Always share testimonies with your friends and your family about what God has done for you.

Do something that will be a reminder lest you forget.

4. Be Grateful

Always remember to thank God for his blessings and this will keep reminding you of his goodness and doings and the blessings will keep flowing

Luke 17:15-19

For the nine lepers who never came back to give thanks, that was the last time you heard about them.

This story was not written because of the nine but because of this one who came to give thanks. We get to hear about him for a second time getting even more blessings.

Most of you will experience open doors, relief, overflow, and deliverance just remember to come back and give thanks.
