Joshua 13

1. When Joshua had grown old, the Lord said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.

God reminded Joshua he had missed the target and he was time-barred. He was old and yet he had not achieved the goal.

It is very easy for us to set goals but fail to achieve them even with all the good intentions. Our pledges can remain just wishes.

Everything has a time limit and when we fail to do things as per time we will fail.

Joshua settled and may be kept postponing taking over the remaining land.  Every day he said he would do it tomorrow.

Every day that passed added to his age but no achievement on claiming more land.

Soon age caught up with him but very little results or achievement even though he had all good intentions.

Procrastination is defined as, "to defer action, delay, to procrastinate until an opportunity is lost."

Maybe you are one of those who habitually postpone doing something, practice. In other words, you put off for tomorrow what ought to be done today, even though you know in your heart tomorrow never comes.

Reasons for procrastination

1. Avoidance, (unatorokea  jambo)

2. Laziness

3. Not willing to pay the cost

4. Wrong priorities,

Even back in 1742, Edward Young was well aware of the issues of procrastination, when he wrote, “Procrastination is the thief of time. In the end, you notice there is no time to do it. Procrastination has stolen your time.

Procrastination is for people

1. Readiness/planning/strategy. -Who like the result, but he hates the process by which the result are to be obtained. You love the dream but are not ready to pay the price.

2. Willingness (Heart factor) - They have the wish, but not the will.

Empty wish without corresponding exertion is useless. It is simply wishful thinking.

3. Some people want to do something when everything is perfectly in place. You will never have everything ready if you wait for such a moment, you will keep postponing.

Ecclesiastes 11

4. Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

This is a Scripture that encourages us not to wait until everything seems perfect but to swing into action. Don't await until you have some good money for you to redeem big time. No convenient time.

We must do things Accordingly and within stipulated times. when we keep post postponing, soon it will be impossible

John 9

4. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. The night is coming, when no one can work.

Remember everything has its time

Ecclesiastes 3

1. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

Use today to do what needs to be done today. you only have today to do what should be done today.

Procrastination is unwise living because you waste time instead of redeeming the time.

You finally find you have no time to do it. We need to be careful how we handle time and duties.

Ephesians 5

15. Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,

16. making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

17. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Coming now to our project. Every one of us has Pledged to give and redeem within the year. By now we ought to be halfway but most of us are not there because of postponing or Procrastination. Yet we are up to date with our bills, rents, school fees etc.

But listen to what God says concerning our pledges

Deuteronomy 23:21

“When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the Lord your God will surely require it of you.

Note Pay it without delay otherwise delaying it is a sin.

You are not to wait until when it is convenient for you.

Note that God say I will require of it, huwezi hepa na deni ya Mungu.

Ecclesiastes 5:4

When you make a vow to God, do not be late in paying it; for He takes no delight in fools. Pay what you vow!

Delaying redeeming your pledges turns you into a fool before God, we all know God is not so kind to fools.

We have not just failed but sinned.

James 4

17. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

We all now know the good we should do.

1. We need to redeem our pledges

2. We need to do it on time without delay.

Anything less than this is a sin.

Let us not be mere talkers but be diligent and hardworking towards this project. Let's redeem ourselves by redeeming our pledges
