John 3:16
Cambridge dictionary:
A willingness to give help or support, esp. more than is usual or expected
Britannica dictionary
The quality of being kind, understanding, and not selfish.
Generosity is not limited to material wealth but also emotional or any area of support.
Generosity does not expect or anticipate pay back.
1.Generosity is God's nature
For God.
Generosity comes from God and He is the best example of Generosity. He gave his only living himself with nothing to lost miserable pathetic lost world.
Generosity describe God's nature and if truly we are his sons, we ought to have this nature. Therefore, every true son must be Generous and practice Generosity like the father.
2.Generosity is love in action
So loved
Generosity is motivated by love that is why Generosity is selfless. It has no selfish motive neither does it expect back. You don't give because you have, you give because you love
3.Generosity is love for the people
The world (people)
Generosity is love for the people and not things. People naturally tend to love things instead of people
If you love what you have more than people, you can not share. You want to keep it instead of letting somebody have it.
You either love people or things.
Generosity is love directed to people. It is love for people and it is always in reference to people.
4.Generosity is expressed in giving
THAT HE GAVE
Generosity is not passive but active. It must be expressed through giving. It bears the spirit of giving. It is not just a desire or wish but action. It is sharing what I have. God gave. You can never love without giving and generosity is the measure of giving.
5. Generosity is quality giving
(Extra mile in giving)
His only begotten son.
It describes the quality of your giving rather than the quantity Generosity is not about how much you have but how big your heart is. It not not giving out of abundance but abundance in giving. Kutoa ni moyo sio utele.
It is not dependent on what you have but on the willing you have. No matter how little you have, you can always give or share when you are Generous.
1 Kings 17:12
[12]“As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
God gave his only. Meaning He gave the very best and he gave all.
6. Generosity leads to prosperity
Despite giving out freely, a generous man continue to increase and prosper
The world principle dictates that when you give generously you are reducing what you have and as a result you will loose or have less.
So it should be sensible to hold on to what you have and pile up so as to increase or have more. But this is contrary to kingdom principles. You grow by giving not withholding
Proverbs 11:24-25
[24]One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
[25]A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Psalm 112:5
[5]Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
Generosity gives birth to Generosity
2 Corinthians 9:6,11
[6]Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7. Generosity attracts the favour of God
If you are Generous God will ensure that you always have plenty so you can be a channel of blessing.
[11]You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God..
Generosity thus keeps your source open thus your blessings keep flowing and increasing
8. A generous man is a blessed man because he trust in the Lord and not in the riches
Generosity is trusting in the blesser instead of the blessings. That's why the give freely because they believe it is God who has given them and so they have no problem giving because he trust the same God will give them more.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
[7]“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
[8]They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
9.Generosity leads to True worship
A generous man is a worshiper.
True worship demands the very best (Mary who poured expensive perfume)and it is never cheap. It is never for the stingy(Judas)
Worship is honouring God because you value him above all else.
A generous people values God more than what God has given them and thus honour God with their wealth.
Proverbs 3:9
[9]Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the first fruits of all your crops;
