Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
When the season approaches what comes to mind about Christmas? Is it the food? The holiday? Family gatherings? The gifts?
There are many theories about Christmas and Santa Claus and some people will find it important to argue if he was born on 25th December but to me, it doesn't matter the colour of his skin, his place of birth, date or month of birth but all I care is he left his comfort throne and came all the way just to save me from the chains and shackles of sin and cage of the devil.
Gifting in Christmas didn't begin with St. Nicholas but way before that when the three wise men visited baby Jesus with special gifts.
Gold - was a gift for kings- symbolised he was the king of Jews and the reigning king of nations.
Frankincense - was a gift for the high priests. It symbolised that He was the mediator of men and God.
Myrrh - was a gift for the VIP tombs, for body preparation. It symbolised his assignment to save us as he shall give himself and die for us to live.
Today if someone was to gift you and one gives you a big gift that you may not necessarily need but they love you, another a small gift that matters to you but from the best part of their heart who among the two is a true friend?
Jesus may not have been a big historical event that could have ever happened but he was an important gift that the father gave unto to us with LOVE.
Two reasons why Jesus came
1. To erase misconceptions about God
John 18:37 New International Version
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.
People what to bring God on our take and our opinions, we what to make God according to our incorrect thoughts but Jesus came to bring the image and personality of God that we may know the truth and the truth sets us free.
If God wanted to save cows he would have come as a cow but he came as a man and that is why it had to make history i.e B.C and A.D.
He revealed the Father by teaching the truth and living as an example of what the Father expects from us to him.
on his walk on earth he illustrated several attributes about the father, he is a provider, loving, merciful, kind, shepherd, powerful, light of the world.
Something about the light is it reveals and expels darkness. things get messy when we are in the darkness. i.e I did not see myself making it through but when you are in the light you say I don't walk by sight but by faith, you take the first step up the stairs even if the rest of the way up ain't clear.
2. To express the love of God
A cliche goes, He is the reason for the season but did you know you too are the reason for the season..he came for you and me.
God had the power to send an angel, an amazing heavenly creature but you are too special he had to come by himself. , as a father, he proved that PRESENTS are not as important as PRESENCE.
He came not only to redeem us from sin but he came as the lover of his bride. Perfect lovers survive the test of time because of always living with understanding and a view from the other side, Christ came too low to my level that could understand my weakness, temptations He came to understand what it is to be empty, discouraged, hopeless, low, and show me the way to cope and overcome
Hebrews 4:15 New International Version
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
2 Corinthians 5.21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
He came to have our past forgiven, give up a purpose for living and give us a home in heaven.
You may have made a mistake but you are not a mistake to him.
