Nehemiah 2: 1- 20
7. Every vision attracts opposition
Nehemiah 2:10
[10] When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.
- The fact that you have a vision and you have sought God, does not mean it is going to be a smooth sail. Some people will discourage you and others will tell you how it is impossible while others will oppose you outright.
- Sometimes you face real challenges and hindrances. But as much as there is opposition, on the other hand, there are opportunities. Opposition and challenges are what grows you and make you.
- Never allow the opposition to discourage you or stop you. We deal with oppositions while we focus on opportunities.
- Opportunities are like open doors through the opposition or Barriers and that's what motivates us.
Mark 2:1-12
- Part of the opposition or challenges you may come across involve risks. No one will ever succeed without taking risk.
- Every vision requires you to be a risk-taker.
- Risk takers are people of faith and it pleases God [Heb 11:6]
- That means we have to overcome certain fears especially the fear of failure. suppose it does not work out? Nehemiah knew the only way to get the attention of the king was by appearing sad before the king.
- This was punishable by death but he risked. In fact, he had never ever done it before and was greatly afraid. But after risking, it worked
Nehemiah 2:1-2
[1] In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before,
[2]so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid,
8. Carry out a feasibility study
- It is one thing to have a good plan but implementing it is another thing altogether.
- How and where do you start, get to know how is the reality on the ground. What is the magnitude of the challenges on the ground?
Nehemiah 2:11-15
Nehemiah went at night and alone to survey. He never told anyone but it was a secret mission.
Always learn to keep some matters in your heart. You expose yourself, you become venerable
9. Get the right people to work with and share the vision
Nehemiah 2:17-18.
- The people embraced the vision and begun immediately
- When you share the vision with the right people, they embrace it quickly and are ready to run with it to completion. when you pick the wrong people, that don’t understand they just resist, oppose or delay the vision.
- The right people are those who are willing and committed to the vision
10.Don't give room for doubts
Nehemiah 2:19-20
- When you leave no room for doubt, you have positive energy(faith) which brings willingness.
- The ability for self-motivation nothing will dissuade you or easily discourage you, willingness will wither out all challenges and opposition.
- Willingness sees only the possibilities no matter the challenges.
- We say where there is a will, there is a way. No giving up.
Mark 2:1-12
