Acts 27:13-26
Paul set to sail to Rome as a prisoner and others to stand trial before Caesar (under Julius)
• V4- the sea was against them
• V6- at Myra they were transferred to another ship coming from Alexandria for Rome( new centurion)
• V7-8 sailed with difficulties along the coast to fair Havens.
• V10 -having lost so much time because of unfavorable sea, Paul waned them of danger ahead but the centurion took the advice of the pilot and the owner.
• V12- the harbor was not suitable to spend winter there so the the majority agreed they chance to phoenix which was better.
• V13- the wind seemed to favor them and they set out
• V14- But things turned for the worse. A dangerous wind called northeaster struck them
• V15- the wind turned the course of the ship and they lost control leaving the ship to go where the storm was leading
• V18- the storm grew violent
• V19- Some desperate effort to save the situation
• V20- many days passed in darkness no sun no moon (no cure no vaccine)(like where we are) and lost in the sea.
They lost all hope of being saved
• V21- people despair they stop eating and wait for death
• V22- Paul brings hope. He break good news that they will be saved.
• V44 - all were brought safely.
How did Paul stand out in the midst of this crisis?
We can learn some lessons even as we are going through this storm.
1. Stay connected
V 23. Paul remained in connection with God; he continued to have deep fellowship with God. Even in the midst of darkness he encountered angelic visitation
• Don't get overwhelmed you lose touch with God.
• Don't lose your zeal because we are not meeting for church
Psalms 27:4
One thing I ask from the LORD,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.
2. Stay focused
V 24. Paul was on a mission to testify to Caesar. The storm and crises did not distract him neither did he change his mission to fighting the crisis.
• It is unfortunate many Christians are no longer on reaching the lost.
• They have forgotten we are Christ ambassadors, they have become corona ambassadors.
• That is what they talk, post and live these posts are not only fearful and untrue they are wearing and irritating.
2 Corinthians 5:20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
3. Stay strong
V22. Take heart. Many Christians are crippled with fear and have lost faith
They are spreading the fear to others. Read the word of God and stay encouraged and strong
Deuteronomy 31:6 (Be strong and courageous never leave you or forsake you).
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Proverbs 18:10 -strong tower
The name of the LORD is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.
4.Stay hopeful.
V25 take courage I have faith in God it will be exactly as God has promised
• As we continue praying let's look forward with optimism, God will come through.
• It may take a while but it will come to an end and God will carry us safely.
Psalms 91:3
Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
