Luke 18:35- A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
Bartimaeus was blind rejected and poor.,Since birth this was his dark glory.
Until this moment he had not seen a new glory. There were many blind persons but Bartimaeus captured the moment and experienced a new glory.
There some few things we learn from him that we can put into practice and we too can experience a new glory. Out of all the multitude, he alone experienced a new glory. He was ignored by everybody but he became the talk of everybody.
Lets look at some qualities that he held.
1.Determination
• The ability to continue trying to do something, although its very difficult:
• The ability to keep pushing and not giving up.
Despite his situation , he did not sit at home down cast and dissolutioned. Everyday he went out to beg to the very people who were very negative to him. He had to survive against the odds.
Even when the crowds shouted him down, he was determined and with stood them. He was not going to be silenced by anyone. Nobody would stop him from experiencing a new glory. Keep trying don't give up. If one think doesn't work try another
James 1:12
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him
Luke 18:1-5
The Parable of the Persistent Widow
18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
2. Desperate
• To be in such a great need.
• To be in a such a bad situation that you are willing to try anything to change it.
How badly do you long for a new glory or you comfortable where you are?
Batmaeus knew how bad it was to be blind and a beggar. How the crowds treated him open our eyes to the treatment and the altitude he was accustomed to. For this reason he was willing to do anything to come out of this situation. Whether it meant shouting at the top of his voice. He did not care about what people would think about him or say. All he cared was getting a solution for his blindness and pathetic situation.
So many people are not desperate enough. When you are desperate enough you decide enough is enough and you don't care anyway whatever job comes you will do. Young people are broke but they can't do odd jobs or be house helps.
Esthers 4:16 pray and fast 3 days and says I will Go against the law,If I perish I perish
16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
3.Discerning
• Is to see, recognize, or understand something that is not clear either by sight or by other senses.
• its to notice or understand something by thinking about it carefully.
Batmaeaus though blind, he was alert and awake. Out of the commotion he was able to understand something was unusual. He did not assume and he made enquiries.
When he heard it was Jesus, he discerning an opportunity. It was his time even though Jesus was not coming for him. He discerned his BLINDNESS could be a thing of the past it was his moment. Opportunities are discerned they don't come shouting.
There are opportunities all around us. Often most of the problems around are opportunities. Jams are a nightmare but to hawkers that is Gold. What you can't find around is an opportunity for you to provide at a profit.
Proverbs 18:15
The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,
for the ears of the wise seek it out.
Are you ready to experience a new glory?
Batmaeaus was surprised to ask for mercy but got much more than that. God is able to do abundantly exceedingly above all we can ever ask or imagine.
3. Daring
• to have enough courage or confidence to do something :
• to not be too afraid to do something.
To do (something that is difficult or that people are usually afraid to do) most people are held captive by fear.
They will not dare to do a new thing. We copy what other are doing. Mpesa, kiosks etc. Batmayas was Daring enough shouting at the top of his voice to get the masters attention. Ordinarily and especially for him it was unexpected.
This was master Jesus not just anybody that's why they were silencing him. You go and humbly kneel down not shout to him like a mad man. They were suprised how Jesus reacted. Be Daring enough.
Acts 4:13
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
