The essence of training our children is to raise a Godly child who the bible considers to be wise
If we don’t train our children we end up raising fools.
They may be educated and graced with talents and other potentials but with no character/morals or any regard for God.
The bible calls such a child or person a fool.
Psalms 53; 1
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.
A fool says in his heart,
there is no God,
they are corrupt in their own way,
they don’t do good (Wicked)
A fool is someone
Who is unwise?
Lacks judgment
Not informed by the truth
A fool does not necessary reject God or truth but in his character and deed it is evident
Proverbs 9; 10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Choices have consequences and what you sow is what thou shall reap
The way you raise your children determines how your retirement will be. A REST or a NIGHTMARE.
Either you will retire in regrets and disgrace or in joy and peace.
Proverbs 17.6
Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
A crown is for HONOUR AND RESPECT.
HOW IS YOUR PARENTING RIGHT NOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR RETIREMENT???
Did you know the only thing you leave behind is your kids and grand kids, and are the the only people (thing) that should matter most to you right now.
Suppose you were to die in the next 5 hours , what would you attend to in urgency
When we fail to train our children right, the following things will come to us in our old age as parents or grandparents.
DESPISED.
Proverbs 15;12
A foolish son brings grief to his father
and bitterness to the mother who bore him.
You no longer command respects, thus we end up losing the moral authority to speak or advise our kids
1st Timothy 3; 4-5
He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full[a] respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
Titus 1; 6
An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.
DISTRESS (Grief and bitterness/Pain)
The pain of children due to their bad choices often pains their parents most
Proverbs 17; 25
A foolish son brings grief to his father
and bitterness to the mother who bore him.
Proverbs 10; 1
A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
Gen 26; 35 When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.
Esau bad choices of wives was a source of grief to his parents
Gen 28;6-8(Realized).
Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram. 8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac; 9 so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.
DISGRACED/DISHOUNOURED(Embarrassment).
Dishonored: - is to be covered in shame instead of respect.,you are no longer held in ESTEEM.
1ST SAMUEL 8;1-2
There was a certain man from Ramathaim, a Zuphite[a] from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 He had two wives; one was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.
DESTRUCTION.
Children can ruin everything you have build in a lifetime i.e. property, family, reputation.
Proverbs 19;13(Bring his father’s ruin).
1st Samuel 1;3
Eli the priest of the lord (for his LIFETIME).
Was dedicated and served God his ENTIRE LIFE TIME, he had build his career/reputation for his entire life time
He had raised a priestly kid
1st Samuel 2; 12
Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the LORD.
1st Samuel 2; 22-24
Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
(Just a mere rebuke, no action /discipline.)
Why???
1st Samuel 3; 10-14 (contestable/did not restrain)
The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
1st Samuel 4; 10-22(Judgment happens)
So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers. 11 The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
Eli’s FAMILY/ MINISTRY/ REPUTATION was destroyed to generations to come.
